1. Smiling lets others know that you’re kind.
Have you have approached a stranger who was wearing a scowl and thought they looked pleasant enough to talk to? I haven’t either. But I have made eye contact with a passing a stranger who greeted me with a full smile and thought that they must be pleasant company. Smiling lets everyone around you know that you are friendly, approachable, and open.
2. Smiling makes you happy.
Usually, when that stranger flashes a smile, I’ll smile back. And for that one quick moment, I forget my troubles and enjoy a moment of happiness without exchanging a single word. Even when you smile at a person who isn’t already wearing smiling, they will smile back. Instantly endorphins are released, and your body suddenly fills with “feel good” chemicals. For a moment you can forget about your troubles.
3. Smiling is infectious.
It doesn’t take much effort to return a smile; most of us do it at a subliminal level without thinking, and once we start, more frequently than not, the people around us start smiling too. It can lift the mood of an entire crowd.
4. Smiling can make you memorable.
Of all the people you pass daily, who do you remember most? Indeed not the people with faceless expressions. The choice is obvious. Surely you would remember the person who smiles ear to ear when they greeted you. When you smile, you are three times more memorable versus someone who has a neutral or negative expression.
5. Smiling attracts new friends.
Who would choose a miserably negative person as a friend? Most of us want someone happy, makes us laugh, and lifts us with positivity. So if you’re smiling not only will you attract new friends, you’ll attract the right kind of friends.
6. A smile is almost always returned.
Whenever someone returns a smile, it warms your heart and brightens your day. A reciprocated smile leaves your smile lingering just a little bit longer and allowing someone else to catch a glimpse and return it all over again. The gift that keeps on giving.
7. Smiling spreads positivity.
Smiling spreads enthusiasm in your spirit and causes you to be more optimistic. It gives you the drive to be better, do better, and be more positive. The effects can last for hours. It’s also habit-forming and can add years to your life.
8. Wearing a smile makes you attractive.
The people we admire are usually photo finish with a smile. Think about influencers and celebrities. Picture their ads and commercials. Most depict with a smile. You don’t see stars that aren’t smiling because if you did, their popularity would decline.
9. Most importantly, smiling is the best thing for your health!
When you are smiling, you release stress, worry, and tension that you build up in your body during the day. Being a state of positivity gives you more potential and power to advance and improve your life.
10. Smiling is FREE!
There is always enough to go around. It doesn’t cost a cent, only a moment. Smiles are free, so share them freely. Spread joy!
What are your thoughts? I'd love to hear them!
