Motivation is one of the reasons behind life-enhancing change. It comes from a realization of knowing what you want to do and having an insatiable, burning desire to take action. It keeps your dream on track. The power of motivation is what keeps you going when the going gets tough.
Here are five tips to help you focus your drive:
1. Create a picture board and fill it with images of your desired goals. The car you want to own, the house you want to live in, the area where you want to live; yes, they’re the obvious ones. Others could be pictures of holiday destinations, trophies, your career, clothes you would like to wear, places you would like to visit. No dream is too big. See yourself in the life you would like to be living. Create your vision board and update it as needed.
2. Get down to the roots. Find your reason for the change, your why. To make the best progress, then think about why you want the change. Why are you tired? What do you need? Ask: “Why do I want to change?” Is it because you want to lose weight? Then why do you want to lose weight? Is it because you want to feel good? Why do you want to feel good? If your answer is to be healthy, then why do you want to be healthy and so on. Find your true why.
3. Appreciate the value of time. Time is one of the most non-renewable precious resources you have. Be careful not to squander it away. To create change, be committed to investing time to make it happen. Take note of your timewasters like television, sleeping in, and visiting an endless line of people who steal your joy. These will rob valuable time from investing in yourself. We all have the same twenty-four hours in a day, but it’s how you use the time you have that counts. So make your time count starting now.
4. Be different. Don’t be too timid to pursue your way. You don’t have to follow where everyone else goes, doing what everyone else does. Strive for more. Does the word follower describe you? Are you afraid to make the first step out? That’s okay, do it scared. Don’t let fear stop you. If you do what everyone else does, you’ll get what everyone else gets. Do you want to strive for better? Do you feel another calling or an overwhelming urge to follow a different path in life than what’s familiar? A leader who possesses the courage to be themselves will be most successful. To make your dreams happen, you have to make a conscientious decision to change. Allow yourself to be different and think outside the box.
5. Fear your fear. Fear can paralyze you. Fear is the force that is determined to stop you in your tracks and rob your dreams from you. But it can only do this if you let it. You can take your negative thoughts captive and choose to speak life into yourself and your ideas. If you allow it, fear will steal your happiness and crush your spirit. Imagine this thought haunting your final days: “I didn’t do the things I wanted because I was too frightened to live.” And by then, it’ll be far too late to conquer fear. Refuse to let fear spoil your life and start taking action – now!
