3 Encouraging Ways To Help Get Rid of Depression
Are you feeling blue, or are you emotionally delicate? Maybe you’re just tired and need to rest? Have you ever found yourself sitting alone trying to label or identify you’re feeling? Is it angst, irritability, or fear? These questions have become common, and in many cases, can be resolved with life changes or medication.
Anxiety and depression have become painfully familiar that so many people take medication for one, if not both, of these mood disorders. Diagnosis of depression and anxiety has tripled since 1990, with more than twenty-five percent of adults in the U.S. suffering from one or more mood troubles.
Occasionally a blue mood or depression might have no evident cause, and sometimes it might be caused by several reasons. Keeping a journal is one of the most powerful tools available for emotional healing and personal growth. Insight from a journal is most effective as a day-to-day practice. Recording our thoughts allows us to view them separately and apart from ourselves.
To ensure you meet all of your spiritual, mental, and physical needs, you can keep a simple Wellness checklist to review every day. Please be kind to yourself and remember it should start slow, simple, and short. It should encourage you, not overwhelm you.
Spiritual
This period is the perfect time to draw your strength from God’s everlasting well of Joy. Joy and happiness are two different things. Happiness results from events or your current circumstances, while Joy is a feeling you choose despite your circumstances. It would be best if you chose joy. Choosing joy means that you still thank God for the little things you have in life. Approach your days with gratitude even when it’s a struggle, and you will see that although you are still in a healing process, you can allow moments of gratitude and joy with Jesus. Physical
Nutrition is crucial when battling depression. Sometimes this will feel like a feat in itself, as depression tends to cut off the appetite. To combat depression effectively, you need to consume enough calories and nutrients to provide your body and brain strength to fight. Choose small meals that are easy to chew. Yes, easy to chew because that is really a chore when you don’t feel like eating. You can cut up cucumbers into thin slices or have a simple sandwich. Try to eat cereal, oatmeal, or cream of wheat. Choosing the right foods will take some experimenting but don’t be afraid to stop eating and try something else. It is also important to keep yourself hydrated with water. Set alarms to help you remember when to nourish your body with essentials.
Mental
Sleep also furnishes the armor you require to battle depression. Without enough rest, you’re more susceptible to those damaging messages twirling around in your brain and less able to do beneficial things on your behalf. Avoid caffeine after 11:00 am. Try to drink some chamomile tea before bed and use lavender scents in your bedroom to cultivate an environment for sleep. You may need to ask your doctor for medication if you need extra help.
Depression is among the worst illnesses we know, but it is treatable. Unfortunately, the road to recovery is often long. It might take weeks, months, and occasionally years of treatment, experimentation, heartbreak, and frustration. Still, with the range of options, and mental health awareness we now have, your prospects are excellent. Furthermore, acknowledging that you are no longer a helpless bystander is a powerful realization. The decisions we make affecting our lifestyles dramatically increase the odds in favor of a speedier recovery. If you are depressed, please seek out help immediately. You do not have to live with any mood disorders any longer than you have to. Anyone currently in the process of treatments, don’t give up hope. A brighter future lies ahead.
