Who Needs encouragement? You, Me, She & Even He
Everyone has times when they could use support or motivation from the people around them. That means everyone is a candidate to receive reassurance from you. You can change someone’s entire life by just giving some encouragement or support.
Consider the people you interact with and recognize someone you know who has been disappointed or is operating through a challenging moment in life. Simply showing an interest in their life can be very promising. It doesn’t even matter if there is anything you can do to remedy or improve the situation. Sometimes you only need to lend a listening ear. Your support will serve as a beacon of hope now that they know there is someone who cares, and hope goes a long way. Hope is a gift that can keep giving.
“May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in faith so that you overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.”
Romans 15:13 NIV
Think about different individuals who have been a positive influence in your life. These people might be someone you look up to or someone that shared a word of encouragement during a challenging time in your life. There is no better way to be encouraged than to hear from someone that you were a tremendous help to in some way. Your encouragement will help inspire them to impact others positively, just as they did for you.
Be on the lookout for individuals or groups putting in great effort or doing a remarkable job at something. It doesn’t have to be anything that involves you or benefits you. You only need to notice it and show interest. Your encouragement will reinforce that individual’s actions and give them the strength to do even greater things in the future.
Random Acts of Kindness Day is this week, and what about a random act of kindness other than to give the gift of an encouraging word. It doesn’t cost any money, only your time and a few simple words. Set out to be an encouragement to at least one person today. Then do it again tomorrow.
How many positive things will you notice about someone this week and be willing to speak out about with applause? Praise that person in your conversations, write an encouraging letter, or help someone in some way. Make a relational investment in their life. You’ll find yourself being encouraged at the same time through your gracious act.
