As 2020 leaves us behind feeling empty and used, we have a few days before 2021 to recharge. This is the time to relax, reflect and rejuvenate. Naturally, our minds begin to think about all of the possibilities for the new year, and we are wide-eyed and so excited for new beginnings. We could babble off a list of things we want to do for next year, but I invite you to take a long breath, slow down and take some to reflect first.
Did Christmas leave you exhausted and feeling empty? Do not fret my friend. This is the perfect time to recharge and reset. Here are a few ideas to get you started.
Supercharge Your Rest By Practicing These Tips
Gratitude. Be still in this moment and let your feelings of appreciation for the holiday that just passed overflow into your home. Gratitude is a good practice for your children too.
You can do this by sending out Thank you cards. Most people enjoy receiving thank you cards or any thoughtful correspondence.
If you have a desire to go a step further, you can call those people that took the time to choose out a thoughtful gift for you and thank them because, let’s face it. That gift was more than a gift. They had to shop for it, it had to be input into their budget, and they had to take time to deliver it and pay to ship it to you. That’s a lot!
Easy. This in-between time is the time to do a quick sweep of the gifts, be sure everyone takes them to their rooms, and throw out the rubbish and recycle the wrapping paper and boxes. The goal is easy, not perfection, so when I say quick, I mean it. It is not a time to deep clean, rest, and rejuvenate, so enjoy this time. Meet up with family, relax at home, enjoy the gifts you received and eat easy-to-make meals. The keyword is Easy.
Reflect. Now is also an opportune time to consider the past year and think about all of the great moments and opportunities you had, no matter how small they were. You can even use this as a conversation topic for your family conversation to allow everyone to share their wins. You’ll hear great stories as everyone reflects. You may listen to Something that your children considered a big success that you might not have realized was crucial to them. You can share your funniest moments, your saddest moments, and even the best thing you learned. These are all things worth visiting and reflecting on. We are emotional beings, and emotions help us process events in life.
Relax. Permit yourself to binge movies on your to-watch list and play board games with family and friends. Avoid cooking by heating leftovers and or have a “leftover” potluck lunch with the people you love. Take those mid-day naps and lounge around the house if it makes you feel relaxed. Enjoy this time to be still, be present, and be in the presence of your loved ones.
Rejuvenate. Finish another book on your to-read list. Manicure, pedicure, whether done at home or a shop, if you want it, then get it. Recharge your mind, body, and spirit. Think self-care. A chiropractor visit, a body massage, a facial; if any of those things appeal to you, decide to get that done during this time.
Rather stay at home? Be still in God’s presence and pray about the upcoming year while thanking Him for the year you just had. Dig into your devotional, your Bible, or meditate in His presence. Read some affirmations or recite your favorite scriptures. Drink tea or coffee out of your favorite mug.
Whatever you think will give you energy, do it. Fill yourself with His peace, unspeakable joy, and everlasting love.
What are your thoughts? I'd love to hear them!
